Our Annual Priorities 2019 to 2020
The aim of the Safer Colchester Partnership (SCP) is to work together to reduce crime and disorder in Colchester and deliver the key priorities contained in it’s Annual Partnership Plan.
The annual Strategic Assessment of Crime, scoring from the Risk Matrix, along with the analysis of Hidden Harm areas and partnership data, has identified the priorities that will provide a focus for the Safer Colchester Partnership for the next 12 months (April 2019 to March 2020:
Priority One – Tackling Gangs & County Lines, focussing on keeping drugs and weapons out of the Community.
The Safer Colchester Partnership will to continue to develop the intelligence and awareness picture of this escalating criminality, especially focussing on County Lines. To best tackle this issue the Safer Colchester Partnership will strive to provide appropriate safeguarding and support to those vulnerable to this type of drug-related exploitation (cuckooing/drug running etc.); with a further aim to assist in the disruption of drug-related activities within the community.
Priority Two – Driving down Anti-Social Behaviour and Violent Crime in public places.
The Safer Colchester Partnership will use all available resources and legislation, including utilising the four standing Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs), to tackling ASB and violent crime within the District. Reductions in these areas will bring reassurance to residents regarding their personal safety and will assist in driving down crime rates for the area. ASB affects families and communities and by addressing this type of behaviour and conduct we can help improve the community quality of life.
Priority Three – Increase confidence in identifying & reporting Hidden Harms.
The Safer Colchester Partnership will aim to increase the understanding and awareness, to both the general public and front-line practitioners, of the Hidden Harms our communities face. Encouraging those who are affected by these harms to engage with the Partnership or relevant agencies/charities to seek help and support, with an emphasis on Domestic Abuse and Hate Crime as identified by the risk matrix.
The Safer Colchester Partnership (SCP) is made up of statutory representatives from the ‘responsible authorities’, which are:
- Colchester Borough Council
- Essex County Council
- Essex County Fire & Rescue Service
- Essex Police
- NHS including the East if England Ambulance Service
- The National Probation Service
In Colchester, membership of the SCP (in addition to Core Members above), include other organisations that make a valuable contribution to crime and disorder reduction in the Colchester Borough:
- Colchester Borough Homes
- Colchester Garrison
- Community 360
- University of Essex
The responsible authorities work together to protect their local communities from crime and to help people feel safer. They work out how to deal with local issues like antisocial behaviour, drug or alcohol misuse and reoffending. They annually assess local crime priorities and consult partners and the local community about how to deal with them.
